Hot air balloon flight, brunch and a guided walk in Spello

A half day out rather than a flight with a drink afterwards, which is what accounts for the gap between its 510 EUR and the cheaper Umbria flight. The morning runs about four and a half hours. An hour of it is in the air, in a balloon shared with other passengers, over the valley floor between Bevagna and Assisi. The rest is a long Umbrian breakfast at a winery and then a private guided walk through Spello. Meeting is at Cantalupo di Bevagna, and that address is approximate: the exact spot arrives with the vouchers after confirmation. The balloon goes up at first light with an expert pilot and follows whatever the wind gives that morning. On the clearest days the medieval hill towns come up under the basket, Bevagna itself, then Montefalco and Assisi, with vineyards and centuries-old olive terraces on the ground between them. Landing is at the winery, and breakfast there is typical Umbrian produce with organic wine rather than a token glass. Spello is the part that separates this from a straight balloon ride. A private guide walks the group through the medieval streets, past the Roman gates and long stretches of the old wall, and into the Church of Santa Maria Maggiore for Pinturicchio's frescoes in the Baglioni Chapel, entry to which is included.
